Sarah Bakewell and The Life of Montaigne

The New York Times called Sarah Bakewell’s unorthodox biography of Michel de Montaigne “a delightful conversation across the centuries.” Sarah believes this quirky 16th-century nobleman was the grandfather of all bloggers, considers his Essays the grandmother of all blogs, and that his philosophy can be summarized as: “Read a lot, forget most of what you read and be slow-witted.”

How to Live won the National Book Critics Circle Award for Biography in the United States, and the Duff Cooper Prize for Non-Fiction in Britain.

Sarah will be in conversation with Ray French and taking questions from the audience.
